WOW Gold:I have been busting my butt to get exalted with my new guild.
I have been busting my butt to get exalted with my new guild. The first guild I joined during Cata merged with another as I was close to exalted, so I lost all of that rep. The second guild disbanded. I changed servers and started playing with some friends and was very excited to do a guild group dungeon today because I knew it would put me over the top. My achievement popped and I flew straight to the guild vendor in Org, thinking that there would be something to obtain now that I had hit the accolade...
Nope...nothing. My guild gets credit for 2 additional reps in it's Raise 55 Reps to Exalted achievement. That's the sum total for grinding your guild's rep. Now sure, if my guild had downed the previous tier of raid content, then I would have access to a mount...but my guild is not a raiding guild. We just got our first ever night of raiding done on Tuesday...and because we only had 7 members in the group for the first three fights, we got no credit for the bosses.
So, 8 months into Cata, with Guild Leveling and Reputation, I must say that I am disappointed with the system. I think that the idea was a neat one in theory, but the practical application of the service has been a let down (at least for me). It discourages merging guilds (no way to transfer levels or rep for the guild that joins the new one). It actually encourages you to stay with your guild (whether you want to or not) because of the PVE-affecting rewards that it provides; however, should you decide to leave, it encourages guild hopping because you have no access to these rewards because you lose all your guild rep. It benefits larger guilds and is a hinder to smaller guilds (we are stuck on level 11 at this point, several months in...my original guild capped the XP every single day). Worst of all, it limits the access to things that were previously available to all (heirlooms, feast recipes, etc...) to only those that are in a successful (read: Large and Raiding) guild.
I am curious about everyone else's take on the guild leveling/rep situation. Has your experience been more positive than mine? Why? Are you frustrated with it as well? Is there something I am missing and should be looking to to take something positive from this?
